Description of company/ product

(less than 100 words)

Promove UK Ltd was formed in August 2007 by Dr Huw Thomas and Dana Thomas to design, develop, manufacture and sell the Promove sling. With the development now completed, the Promove is in full production here in Wales.

Promove is a new sling for moving and handling incapacitated or disabled (including bariatric) persons in confined spaces where a hoist cannot be used.  Development was sponsored and guided by the Wales Innovator's Network and the design incorporates suggestions from Healthcare, Fire and Rescue and Ambulance Services.

Key Selling Points

  • Promove is easily placed beneath an incapacitated person whether they are on the ground, seated in a chair or in a tight corner.
  • It provides good support, forming a secure bucket shaped seat under the individual - providing a sense of security.
  • The innovative design of the handles allows the sling to be used by two to four operatives (or up to eight for bariatric patients), making moving individuals in difficult situations an easier and safer task.
  • Independently tested with a safe working load of  45 stone
  • Complies with current manual handling and health and safety policies.
  • The risk of musculoskeletal injury to the assistants in attendance is greatly reduced because proper grip is provided by the handles and up to eight persons can be involved in the lifting or manoeuvring thereby distributing the weight of the disabled or incapacitated person between a greater number of operatives.
  • Promove is very compact and is quickly and easily deployed.
  • When the manoeuvre is complete the Promove can be quickly and easily removed from beneath the disabled or incapacitated person.
